Ben Smaltz is a lifelong resident of NE Indiana and is proud to represent our home community in the Statehouse. Ben previously served on the DeKalb County Council. He and his wife Shelley raised their family here and have three grandchildren. Ben is an owner of his family business, Taylor Rental which opened in 1977.
The general election is about kitchen-table costs and a safe, strong Indiana. Here is where Ben stands.
Hold the line on inflation, protect jobs, and keep more money in Hoosier pockets. Support property tax reform and utility rate reform so families and small businesses can stay here and grow.
Homeowners and renters are feeling the squeeze. Ben will keep pushing reforms that lower the burden instead of passing costs down the line.
Ben has written legislation to lower health care costs, requiring good faith estimates by healthcare providers and stopping surprise billing.
Back the men and women who keep us safe. Crack down illegal drugs and restrict sex offenders from moving into our commnity. Endorsed by the Indiana State Police Alliance and Indiana Professional Fire Fighters PAC.
Proud author of Constitutional Carry. Endorsed by the NRA-PVF and the 2A Project. One of the only 2A advocates to win the NRA Defender of Freedom Award twice. Law-abiding Hoosiers should not need permission to exercise a constitutional right.
Secure borders, enforce the law, and put Indiana families first — not cartels and open-border chaos.
No selling our farmland and industry to China or Russia. Keep our food supply, factories, and future in Hoosier hands.
100% pro-life. Proudly voted for one of the toughest pro-life laws in the country. Endorsed by Indiana Right to Life and Northeast Indiana Right to Life.
As CEO of Taylor Rental, Ben knows a payroll is not a talking point, it is food on the table. Endorsed by NFIB. Cut red tape. Grow local jobs.
Supported by the people who protect, build, and defend Indiana.
The National Rifle Association recognized Ben Smaltz twice as a Defender of Freedom — including for authoring Constitutional Carry in Indiana. Few legislators have received this award more than once.
